PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
Joaquín Ortego
CIENTÍFICO TITULAR (CSIC)
Joaquín is broadly interested in many aspects related with the study of genetic variability in natural populations. He uses different molecular and analytical tools to understand the factors determining genetic variation across space and time and address questions that can be mostly framed within the interconnected fields of population genetics and evolutionary biogeography.

PHD STUDENT
Marina Trillo
PHD STUDENT
Marina’s PhD project aims to integrate genomic data, environmental niche modelling and phenotypic information to study of the drivers of speciation in different radiations of Mediterranean Orthoptera, including grasshoppers of genus Chorthippus and bush crickets of the genus Neocallicrania. She is also an amazing scientific illustrator.
VISITING RESEARCHER
Francesco Forte
MSC STUDENT
Francesco is a master student at Università degli Studi Roma Tre (Italy). His master project focuses on the application of genomic data and geometric morphometric analyses to study speciation in the genera Italopodisma and Italohippus, two complexes of grasshoppers endemic to the Italian Peninsula that include many taxa of great conservation concern.
VISITING RESEARCHER
Özgül Yahyaoğlu
PHD STUDENT
Özgül is visiting our lab with a grant funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK). She is a PhD student at Akdeniz University (Turkey) under the supervision of Prof. Battal Çıplak. Her research focuses on the study of speciation, biogeography and adaptation across elevational gradients in the bush cricket genus Parapholidoptera (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae).
